Heading verbatim: '+ 1800. - Junio 30 - Monterrey - / Alberni á Arrillaga. Llegada á Monterrey - Desdichas de sus habitantes. Construccion de casas.' Savage then quotes the letter itself. [= I arrived at this place of Monterey, where I expected to enjoy its title, which is that of Californian Court, but having examined its excellent perfections I have not been able to find one, and only abundant miseries and desolation among its inhabitants, all of which serves me for anguish and affliction, appealing to endurance: we shall get by as God may be served.] Savage marks an ellipsis of dots, then Extract 2 verbatim: 'He tomado la providencia de hacer cuatro viviendas p.a otros tantos soldados casados, q.e se hallan sin alojam.to erogando los gastos de mi cuenta.' [= I have taken the step of building four dwellings for as many married soldiers who are without lodging, defraying the costs from my own pocket]. Document runs from the lower third of n10 onto the top of n11, ending 'p. 24.'
