Gloss: the interrogation, through an interpreter, of the master of the Resolution: three years out of London whaling, touched at the Portuguese establishments, went on to Asia where he heard whales abounded off the California coasts, was returning to Europe by the Cape of Good Hope not having found the class of whale he wanted, and had asked the price of goods and informed himself of the wealth of the country.
