Dep. State Papers, Benicia (Military), tomo LXIX–LXXVII · BANC MSS C-A 19, document 95

Causa vs. two neophytes Pedro & Feliciano (sent from Tecate[?] by Cabo Juan Mª Marrón) for horse-theft and because they 'no querían sujetarse á los trabajos de comunidad de su misión' (refusing mission community labor). Argüello — here styling himself Cmdt. Militar of SD 'y encargado de los asuntos políticos de este Departamento' — finds them liable under the vagrancy decree of 8 Mar 1828 and the supreme decree of 7 Sep 1829 (art.1 §6) on ladrones cuatreros. Echeandía's sentence (apparently in his own hand): Pedro → 2 yrs public works at the SF presidio; Feliciano → 1 yr at Monterey. Orig. pp.647–654.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
