Heading 'Espedicion de Fages al Rio Colorado'. Asks that ex-governor Pedro Fages be ordered to send the government of the Californias the account of his own expedition reconnoitring the mouth of the Colorado, 'hecho en 86 (o) 87'. Adds that the sargento distinguido invalido Manuel de Vargas, who had worked in Fages' office, told him 'qe Fages se habia llevado todos papeles concernientes a esta a Mex.o y por eso no habia constancia ninguna en su archivo (de Monterrey)' [that Fages had carried off to Mexico all the papers concerning this, and that is why there was no record whatever in the Monterey archive]. A direct contemporary statement of loss from the provincial archive.

How to cite this document
Borica al Virrey, Monterrey, 1795 Abril 16., Provincial Records, V–VII, p. 149. (closing cite), Archives of California, C-A 24, Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley. [the tomo is given as the volume’s full range: this entry has not been resolved to a single tomo within V–VII]Cite the document by series, tomo and original tomo page, as the literature does; the C-A number locates it in the repository. To cite this catalogue entry itself, use https://archivesofcalifornia.com/record/ca24/ca24-d537.htmlThe originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
