USELESSNESS OF THE COASTAL FORTS. Forwards engineer Córdoba's opinion that the San Diego and Santa Barbara forts are badly built and insufficient, and endorses it. Verbatim: “‘Del propio dictamen soy yo como lo hice presente á V.E.... sirviendo siempre de algun respecto las esplanadas de S.n Frco. Monterey y S.n Diego, sin embargo de sus nulidades - pues no todos los q.e intenten sorprender alguno de estos puertos estarán instruidos en ellas.’ Cordoba seguirá sus estudios p.a un Mapa de la N.a Cal.a” Underlined heading: Inutilidad de los fuertes de la costa.
