Last leaf of Tomo IX. One register entry, verbatim: '' 3. pp

Provincial Records, tomo VIII–X · BANC MSS C-A 25, document 1062

Last leaf of Tomo IX. One register entry, verbatim: '' 3. pp. 631.33 (1 doc.) - Queda impuesto de venir un oficial de Artilleria con destino á la Prov.a p.a remplazo de esta arma.' Then TWO finding-aid notes in which Savage records what fills the rest of the original volume without copying it, verbatim: 'Indice de comunicaciones remitidas por el Virrey á Gob.r.s de Cal.s de 1799 á 1814. pp. 634-66.' and 'Yndice de oficios de Gob.r Arrillaga al Virrey - 1800 - 1804. pp 667-763.' English gloss: an artillery officer is coming to the province as a relief for that arm; then, index of communications sent by the Viceroy to the governors of the Californias, 1799 to 1814, occupying original pages 634 to 666; and index of dispatches of Governor Arrillaga to the Viceroy, 1800 to 1804, occupying original pages 667 to 763. The two notes are a statement of nearly 130 original pages of Provincial Records IX that Savage saw and did not transcribe, which is why they matter.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
