The matanza-de-ganado jurisdictional dossier (opening petition): after long preparation of corral, tasajera, hornillas, cazos, leña + 80-odd reses driven >20 leagues for his customary annual matanza de ganado vacuno, one of the Jueces de Paz (interino José Mª Rojo), backed by the Sub-Prefecto, ordered him (by oficio) to cease slaughtering at the accustomed site on sanitation grounds; de la Guerra rebuts point by point (prevailing winds carry the *vapores insanos* away; the fast arroyo self-clears by 8–9 a.m. before the women wash; 'notoriamte. falso… que haya 4 ó 6 familias que beban de aquellas aguas'); alleges Rojo acted from revenge over a *licencia para vender licores* on San Juan's day; claims $200 damages; asks Rojo & the Sub-Prefecto be reprimanded. ⚠ marginal decree n258: 'Monterey 15 de Octe. de 1839. Pase á informe al Sr. Prefecto del Segundo Distrito.' (the enclosed copies + witness interrogatorio follow as #207–212)
