Verbatim heading: '1788 Mayo 24 San Vicente / Gonzalez a Fages sobre una acusacion contra el' [Savage writes the accents: 'Gonzalez á Fages sobre una acusacion contra él']. English gloss: Gonzalez to Fages, on an accusation against himself. Substance: Gonzalez transmits a representacion asking for the corresponding juridical investigation of the charges heaped on him at 'la Mision de San Francisco', which are: 'la nota de escandaloso y la vil accion de haber sacado furtivamente unos carneros de cierta Mision' [the imputation of being scandalous, and the vile act of having furtively taken some sheep out of a certain Mission]. He states that, convinced of such disorders, he will venerate his sentence; and his conduct being justified, he will await the corresponding providencia that shall vindicate his honour. Savage copies this as an abstract in the third person with no quotation marks. The Mission named is written only as 'la Mision de San Francisco'; given Gonzalez commands on the Baja frontier at San Vicente I infer, without confirming it, that this is a Baja California mission and not San Francisco de Asis.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
