'Estando enteramte toda la Compa, inclusos los oficiales de ella, sin sillas, y algs de los soldos hacer el servicio en pelo, se hace preciso que a luego que haya buques que dejen o le cobren algs derechos, los saque en metalico para mandar por las sillas a la Mision de Santa Ines, pues el R. Padre Fray Blas Ordaz manda decir que si hay metalico, habra sillas' [the entire San Francisco company, officers included, is without saddles and some soldiers do duty bareback; duties from visiting vessels must be taken in coin to send for saddles to Mission Santa Ines, since Fr. Blas Ordaz says that if there is cash there will be saddles]. The saddles requested number 50, 'a razon de 16 p poco mas o menos, importan $811'. He has also told Capn Dn Luis Arguello that the Comisario has ordered tonnage duties of vessels going on to Monterey be paid there, wherefore he directs that these, 'como el 25 p[or ciento], 15 y 2 1/2 se agregue a esta guarnicion.'
