Spans n92-n93.

Dep. State Papers, Benicia (Custom House), tomo I–VIII · BANC MSS C-A 41, document 107

Spans n92-n93. New sliding scale: duties up to $3000 payable wholly in coin; $3001-6000 two thirds; $6001-12,000 one half; over $12,001 one third. Tonnage duty should not count toward import duty 'sino abonarse inmediat.e en plata.' Aduana not to be obliged to take goods at unfavourable prices but may take 'esquilmos del pais á precios corrientes' [country produce at market rates]. Recommends terms for large Boston-ship cargoes (interlined 'de las de Boston') whose duties reach $30,000: first instalment at 40 days from the aforo, second at 80.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
