Vagrancy enforcement. Verbatim: 'Ordena q. pase sin demora á la Sub Prefª pª dar cta al Gobr, una lista de todos los vecinos que no se ocupen de trabajar, á fin de aplicarles la ley de vagos.' Gloss: orders the judge to send the Sub-Prefecture without delay, for report to the Governor, a list of all residents not occupied in work, so the vagrancy law may be applied to them. Doc 1 of 2 under Savage's '(2 Docs.)' heading, but the pieces ARE distinguished: the second is separately dated Feb 24 with its own page cite.

José, San José, 1843-02-23, Departmental State Papers, San José, IV+, p. 43, Archives of California, C-A 45, Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley.Cite the document by series, tomo and original tomo page, as the literature does; the C-A number locates it in the repository. To cite this catalogue entry itself, use https://archivesofcalifornia.com/record/ca45/ca45-d352.htmlThe originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
