VERBATIM HEADING: '1827. En. 22. Mont. / Jose Castro al alc.de de S.n Jose. Terrenos.' GLOSS: lands, and to whom the Monterey ayuntamiento answers. Two things in one line: a declared bar on land grants to foreigners, and the Monterey ayuntamiento recognizing no chief but the comandante general, which is a jurisdictional statement worth checking against the Echeandia-era command dispute.
