SUBSTANCE, Savage copies verbatim, not as an abstract: 'Se leyo el acta del dia anterior, y habiendo concurrido a esta sesion el R. P. Presidente Fr. Vicente Franco. de Sarria, propuso la dificultad q. se presentaba en la escasez de sugetos en la Provincia para este efecto, pues los Religiosos que eran los unicos habitantes de ella q. podian desempenar este oficio estaban muy escasos, pero que sin embargo pondria todos cuantos medios estuviesen a su alcance pa que se consiguiese tan loable institucion.' Then the signature roll, verbatim: 'Monterey de la Alta California 28 de Enero de 1824 = Luis Antonio Arguello Presidente = Jose Arces = Franco. Castro = Jose Palomares = Carlos Castro = Jose Antº Carrillo = Jose Castro, Suplente = Jose Joaquin de la Torre Secretario.' Then the certification: 'Es copia Monterey 31 de Enº de 1824 / Arguello / Jose Joaquin de la Torre Secretario' and the page cite 'p. 47'. INFERENCE, flagged as inference and not established from these leaves: the unnamed 'tan loable institucion' whose staffing Sarria discusses is very probably the 'Hospicio de Estudios' for the teaching of youths debated in the session of the previous day, 27 January 1824 (pp. 63-5, already published at scan n20), since this acta opens by reading the acta of the day before. The leaf itself never names the institution.
