CHURCH ASYLUM CASE: 'quedo enterado de qe Estanislao Valenzuela, se presentó en la Iglesa del Sn Gabrl el 8 del mismo mes en la noche, cuyo indivo no es soldo, y si pr haber cometido el delito de haber robado una muchacha soltera en este Preso y haberse desertado con ella se le sentencio á Presidario del Preso de Sn Franco, y en este estado, se desertó de este Preso en compa del Presidario Santiago Vasquez, pr lo qe hará V. trasladar á dho. Valenzuela á ese Preso, y qe con un grillete trabaje en las obras publicas hta. qe baje y suba cualqa de los Barcos de Dn Guillmo Hartnell, en el cual me lo remitirá pa darle su destino.' — Estanislao Valenzuela (civilian, sentenced for abducting a single girl at Monterey and deserting with her, escaped with presidiario Santiago Vásquez) took refuge in San Gabriel church at night; to work in irons on public works at San Diego until one of Hartnell's ships can return him.
