Heading: 'Sobre busca del Ojo de Agua.' 'El Soldado Juan Maria Ruiz salio del Presidio con el Cabo Juan Maria Olivera, y dos soldos.' in search of the ojo de agua Fages ordered, Nieto being sick. Zúñiga complains the order 'para el registro del paraje intermedio para la fundacion' never specified which site; of 'las tres [rancherias] que encontramos en la Cañada,' the last was already outside the intent, since Fages wanted 'un sitio intermedio, y proporcionado a la mayor inmediacion de Nro. camino,' and the gentiles' account had the Cañada de San Juan ending at that rancheria. Ruiz ordered to push on to San Gabriel and then withdraw to the canal.
