COLLECTIVE NEOPHYTE PETITION, spans n128–n130 (an inserted PHOTOGRAPHIC facsimile of the original, not Savage's hand; Savage headed it 'Muy curiosa carta'). 'Nosotros hemos nacidos en nuestra Santa mision y vivimos como Cristiaanos hijos de Dios, pero ahora hemos de hablar aquí otra cosa.' They denounce the alcalde they themselves elected: 'Jasinto el alcalde nosotros mismos lo nombramos… porque nosotros pensabamos que era buen hombre.' Three counts: (1) told the admor. their complaints of 'frio y de hambre' were lies and that the people 'bienen á correrte al presidio'; (2) after a second delegation, named a youth 'Estanislao, este es el que fue muy ablador' — jailed at the guardhouse and 'por la mañana le dieron cien azotes, y buenas reatas' [= 100 lashes for having spoken]; (3) before Sr. Manuel Cota he named the speakers 'Jaime, y Juan Pablo, y Geronimo, y Emigdio, y Vitos, y Crisanto, y Apolonio.' They ask Hartnell to demote him — 'que se rebaje unpoco que ya está muy alsado que vive como nosotros, él ya duró como cinco años de alcalde' — and warn: 'ya no acordamonos nuestros cristianos por causa de este alcalde, ya los volvimos como gentiles, porque este alcalde no quiere que resan la gente por alli en el campo.'
