Spans n209-n210. The preceptor's $1,000 annual salary plus the other employees' 'ascienden á una suma qe. no se puede pagar de la mitad del fondo de los intereses qe. se ha mandado formar'; moreover 'los jóvenes naturales aptos pa. la enseñanza no pasan de veinte' [no more than twenty Indian youths are fit for schooling] and the Padres offer to teach them for a small allowance, which he thinks the more economical course. Savage transcribes a MARGINAL DECREE of Figueroa, 2 Dec, ordering him to abide by what is commanded and, if funds fall short, to pay the preceptor with what there is pending other measures. Tomo IX.
