State Papers, Missions and Colonization, tomo I · BANC MSS C-A 52, document 35

first-person 'Diario sobre la expedición á los Tulares' (heading @ n227; interleaved in the Reglamento band) — a Santa Bárbara fugitive-neophyte-recovery raid (NOT the Colorado frontier — my earlier reading, corrected 2026-07-31 by a verbatim re-read): left the presidio the 25th with 6 men + a runaway name-list + 2 interpreters (one Castilian, one Tulareño) → San Buenaventura → Rancho Simí → Mission San Fernando → Cajon Pass ('boca del cajón de Musupiabit') → interior rancherías (Quariniga, Guapiabit, Atongai/Atenga, Mavallo, Guaniga, Chigena, Pichete, Tocoipite) at the edge of the Valle de los Tulares; a night-march ambush of gentiles under the leader 'Lupiaqui'; ⭐ apprehended an Indian 'Macal, de los que mataron á los soldados' (a prior soldier-killing in the cajon); located 8 runaway Christians of San Fernando & San Gabriel, took India prisoners; retreated under rain / impassable sierra / short provisions; returned 'á las 2 de la mañana del 23… al Presidio de Santa Bárbara.' ⚠ Undated by Savage; dated 1806 by a strong multi-line in-corpus inference (the documented 1806 Sta Bárbara Tulares fugitive-recovery campaign; Bancroft notes some of its diaries 'not to be found') — NOT a confirmed date, do not assert as certain. author '[Salazar?]' per the n227 heading only, unverified → register + + the Cajon-Pass interior corridor
