Previously uncatalogued — recovered by the 2026-08-27 coverage audit: it lay inside the span of a grouped entry covering n240-n269, which satisfied every coverage check while concealing it. ⚠ DATE CAVEAT: the final digit of the heading year is not legible with certainty on the IA scan at full resolution; 1786 rests on the body's phrase 'de 5 de Ag.to del año pasado de 85', not on the heading glyph. Jacobo Ugarte y Loyola to Pedro Fages: relocation of the pueblo of San Jose.] a 1786 order AUTHORIZING a removal of the pueblo of San Jose de Guadalupe to la Lomita. ⚠ It was evidently not carried out: this project's own C-A 9 d20 (10 Jan 1797) still has alcalde Marcos Chaboya petitioning Borica to relocate the pueblo, with the decision reserved pending Cordova's report. 'Conformandome pr. Decreto de esta fha. con lo espuesto pr. el Sor. Asesor en vista de lo representado pr. Vm. en of. de 5 de Agto. del ano pasado de 85. sobre qe. a los vecinos del Pueblo de Sn. Jose de Guadalupe se les permitiese la remocion qe. solicitaron a la Lomita poco distante de dho. Pueblo; Prevengo a Ud. qe. segun lo propuso en su citado of. disponga la traslacn. del mencionado paraje a la Loma inmediata, elegida pr. los espresados vecinos, como mas util y ventajosa sin alterar, ni variar pr. esta razon los limites y linderos de los territorios o distritos asignados a aquella Poblacion, ni a la Mision contigua. de Sta. Clara; pues no hay justo motivo pa. qe. esta pretenda aquel Sitio.' Ugarte y Loyola therefore grants the move but expressly freezes the pueblo's boundaries at the pre-removal lines and forecloses any Santa Clara claim on the vacated site. It is the legal antecedent the 1797 decree on the leaf above depends on when it orders that measurement run from the old pueblo, and it is why the whole 1786 order was copied into the 1797 expediente. Its presence out of chronological sequence, between May 1797 and August 1797 documents, is not a copying error but the standard practice of appending an antecedent inside a file.
