Heading verbatim: 'Branciforte al Gob.r de Calif.a'. By decree of the 12th of the current month, on prior report of the Tribunal de Cuentas and view of the fiscal de Real Hacienda, the viceroy 'he declarado no haber lugar a la solicitud q.e hicieron varios sold.s casad.s de la comp.a Franca de Volunt.s de Cataluna p.a q.e se les concediesen ayudas de costa en el viage de tierra como a los Artesanos' [I have declared there is no ground for the petition made by several married soldiers of the Free Company of Catalonian Volunteers that they be granted travel allowances on the overland journey as the artisans were], 'p.r ser diversa la contrata de estos q.e pasan a ensenar sus oficios a la del enganchamiento del sold.o q.e sigue la carrera militar' [the artisans' contract being different, they going out to teach their trades, from the enlistment of the soldier who follows a military career]; the resolution is to be made known to those individuals through the proper channel. 'No obstante tratandose tamb.n el modo de beneficiarlos y compensar sus serv.s p.r medio de una nueva Poblac.n en q.e se les repartan tierras radicandose desp.s de cumplidos con sus familias en la Peninsula, remito a V.S. copia del informe del Tribl. de Ctas. p.a q.e se entere de el, y me esponga el suyo con cuanto se le ofreciere y ocurriere, acerca del Proyecto sobre q.e le encargo la preferencia a fin de determinar lo q.e convenga' [nevertheless, since the manner of benefiting them and compensating their services by means of a new settlement in which lands would be distributed to them, they settling with their families in the Peninsula after their terms expire, is also under consideration, I remit to Your Lordship a copy of the report of the Tribunal de Cuentas so that you may inform yourself of it and lay before me your own with whatever occurs to you regarding the Project, to which I charge you to give preference, so that what is fitting may be determined]. = the originating viceregal order out of which the Villa de Branciforte project grew.
