Rendrich salió de Boston en Sete. de 87 con el designio de descubrir y reconocer los establecimtos. qe. tienen los Rusos en las costas septentrionales de esta Peninsula; dispondrá Vm. se asegure este Buqe. y toda su gente, con discrecn. tino, maña, y cautela, ejecutando lo mismo con un pequeño paquebot qe. lleva en su conserva, y con qualqa. otra embarcacn. estrangera, y sospechosa, dandome en estos casos prontos avisos, pa. providenciar lo conveniente=' Substance: a standing seizure order. Whenever the frigate Columbia should put in at San Francisco, Argüello is to secure the ship and every person aboard by discretion and stratagem rather than force, and to do the same with the small packet sailing in her company and with any other foreign or suspicious vessel, reporting at once. The ship is identified as belonging to 'el Gral. Washington de los Estados Americanos', commanded by 'Jn. Rendrich' (John Kendrick), out of Boston in September of 87, her stated object being to find and reconnoitre the Russian establishments on the northern coasts. Closes with the copyist certification: 'Es copia á la letra de la original qe. existe en el Archivo de mi cargo, de qe. certifico = Sn. Franco. 14 de Julio de 1789 = José Arguello.'
