Heading: «Sobre los requisitos necesarios para obtener titulo de Castilla». Savage notes «(Este documento es copia de una Cedula Real que fué expedida con fecha: S.n Lorenzo el Real 13 de Noviembre 1790)». Recites the report of José Cistué, fiscal del Consejo de Indias y de la Cámara, 33 years in America, 18 as fiscal, alcalde y oidor in México: titles of Castile had been got «por compra ó por gracias obrepcivas y subrepcivas» by men without merit or means, some marrying «con desigualdad y sugetos poco decentes pero opulentos», others lending capital to the Real Hacienda. Orders: «manda el Rey que no se conceda titulo de Castilla á ninguna persona de America sin que traigan justificacion hecha, en la audiencia del distrito del solicitante, con citacion del fiscal ó fiscales». Enumerated requisites (n110): hijodalgo de sangre ó de privilegio; married or not and family connections of petitioner and wife; services of petitioner and ancestors in the direct line; employments and posts held; mayorazgos, bienes y rentas and where situated; quality of the goods, charges and net annual yield; whether that rent suffices «para vivir con la decencia que requiere el lustre de la graduacion y pagar las lanzas y medias anatas». Procedure (n111): information taken by an oidor in greatest secrecy, communicated to the fiscal(es), who report in their own hand; the President or Virrey to be notified to attend and, if he dissents from the oidor's dictamen, to report in his own hand; report sealed and sent direct to the Consejo de Cámara del Rey «sin que se comuniquen al pretendiente»; the integral testimonio of the originals to stay in the archivo secreto de la audiencia.
