SESSION ACTA Heading verbatim: 'o 1834 = Julio 1º = Mont. / Diputacion Territorial = Sobre consecion de terreno, Nobramiento de Srio &ª' [= 1834, July 1, Monterey. Territorial Deputation. On the granting of land, appointment of a Secretary, etc. (Marginal mark: 'o'. 'Nobramiento' is Savage's spelling as written, without the m.)] LAND. 'Expediente sobre el Citio del Alizal concedido á los Señores Soberanes, y en que ceden una 3ª parte de él al Sr Dn Guillermo Ed. Hartnell' (William E. P. Hartnell), referred to the joint commissions of Colonizacion y terrenos valdios. 'Otro del terreno nombrado Acalanes, concedido al C. Candelario Valencia', to the same commissions. (Both placenames checked at magnification: 'Alizal' and 'Acalanes' as written.) SALARY. The commission of Reglamento y ordenanzas Municipales reports on the President's proposition 'sobre la asignacion de $600 anuales al Srio de esta Corporacion'; taken as first reading. Second reading of the Gobierno commission's dictamen on the Srio del Juzgado of San José de Guadalupe, discussion set for the following session. ELECTION OF THE SECRETARY. At the President's request the election proceeds 'por medio de cedulas que cada vocal hecho dentro de una anfora'; on regulating the votes 'resultó electo con unanimidad el C. José Mª Maldonado'. Carrillo (D.J.A.) moves that to avoid exchanges of oficios the elected man be cited before the corporation to say whether he accepts and to fix the time of his taking possession. Carrillo (D.C.) asks whether the elected man, holding the office of regidor, may leave that post. The President replies he finds no law preventing it unless the appointment were to a post inside the same Ayuntamiento, and that otherwise that corporation may declare the office vacant and replace him as the law directs. Maldonado is cited, told of the confidence placed in him, and accepts 'bajo la condicion de ser provicionalmente con motivo de no poder pasar al Pueblo de los Angeles en caso de declararse Capital del Teritorio' (the Los Angeles capital question, on the leaf). He is sworn, takes his seat, and the outgoing secretary is cited to hand over the archive by inventory as soon as possible.
