VERBATIM HEADING: 'Setᵉ 26. (2 Docs) - pp. 296-8.' (a second document entered under the same 1793 heading block on this leaf, no separate addressee line). GLOSS: Arrillaga to the Viceroy of Mexico, Monterey, 26 Sept 1793, two items. SIGNIFICANCE: an explicit 1793 statement that the missions had no surveyed limits except where San Gabriel abutted Los Angeles and Santa Clara abutted San Jose, coupled with a request for authority to grant land in which Arrillaga says he considers the Indians entitled to the best of it. Directly relevant to the land-tenure and Californio-repertoire threads. [corner: item 2 finishes on corner 118, BookReader n117]
