Underlined heading “Borica al Virrey - Sobre Indios de Jacom, S.n Diego.” A party of 5 soldiers under alférez Pablo Grijalva went to “la Ranchería de Jacom [= Jacum/Jacumba] en persecucion de unos indios malhechores. Los aprendieron - pero a su vuelta á la mis.n de S.n Miguel y a 5-6 leguas de Jacom les salieron unos 200 Indios armados” who attacked despite the escort’s protestations of peace and killed the officer’s horse; he ordered fire, “matandose un gentil y saliendo dos heridos,” and the Indians withdrew. On word from the San Diego comandante Ant.o Grajera “q.e la Indiada serrana andaba inquieta” Borica took precautionary measures against a possible invasion, and “mandará castigar mas tarde los [struck: q.e mataron] indios de Jacom - q.e son muy turbulentos.”
