Provincial State Papers, tomo VII–VIII · BANC MSS C-A 4, document 268

Fages transmits a real órden of 2 March, relayed 10 Sept by the Comandante General, who had it from the marqués de Sonora, on punishment of deserters. Because of the cost of shipping army deserters back to Spain, the King resolved that in all provinces of both Americas and the Philippines 'se apliquen é incorporen en los Cuerpos fijos de ellas los desertores de los del Ejército de España, aprehendidos despues del regreso de sus respetivos regimientos, imponiéndoles el tiempo de servicio y castigo que habrian de sufrir en dichos sus Cuerpos' [deserters absorbed into local fixed corps instead of repatriated]. spans n224-n225.
