On soldiers' wills. The Comandante General, by superior order of 1 Dec last, encloses a copy of the dictamen of the Auditor de Guerra, one clause of which orders the Governor as Inspector of his troops to 'disponga que en lo sucesivo se guarden y cumplan literalmente, en cuanto á su funeral, misas y entierro, los testamentos y últimas disposiciones bajo las cuales fallecieren los soldados de aquellas Comp.s Presidiales'; for those dying ab intestato without known heirs, their alcances and small haberes are to go to suffrages for their souls, a quarter of the total to the company chaplain (masses at the one-peso diocesan alms rate) and the other three quarters, overseen by the captain and the inspector or his adjutant, spent on as many masses as possible, preferring priests who accept a lower alms, and among them presidio chaplains. Receipts to be filed with the liquidation of the deceased's accounts. Signed Arizpe, 26 Nov 1787, Galindo Navarro. spans n231-n232. Marginal mark:
