Verbatim heading: '1788 Dic.bre 11 San Francisco / Francisca Ruelas a Fages Suplica' [Savage: 'Francisca Ruelas á Fages Súplica']. English gloss: Francisca Ruelas to Fages, a petition. Substance: she says that the Teniente y Comand.te Jose Arguello informs her that they were taking away her son Marcelo Pinto his plaza ('le quitaban su Plaza'), and considering that in giving him his liberty he is lost ('considerando que en dandole soltura se pierde'), she begs that he be retained in the service. This is the direct sequel to the case anchored on n250 (Arguello to Fages, 26 Nov 1788, 'Trato ilicito entre un soldado y una muger casada', pp. 193-195, already in the export): a mother petitioning the governor over her soldier son. A woman writing directly to the governor is uncommon in this run.
