English gloss: Zuniga to Fages, on the entry of a vessel, an accident to a soldier, the arrival of couriers, the apprehension of runaways. Substance: on 24 October last the frigate, which Savage writes as 'Aranzam' [in quotation marks; I read the final letters as m and flag the reading as uncertain, and infer without confirming that the vessel is the Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu], entered this port, and after discharging made sail on the 9th of the current month. The soldier Mateo Rubio, on that same 24th, loading a cannon injured his arms, and as it appears he will be left wholly maimed ('quedará del todo manco'). The frontier couriers reached this presidio on the 19th of the current month and returned the next day, those from here leaving for the canal on the day of the date. Most of the cimarrones of Mission San Miguel have been seized, and the gentiles of the Valle have handed over some at the other escoltas and presidios.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
