English gloss: A sergeant, three corporals and two soldiers to the Governor and Commandant Inspector, on the cult of a Virgin. Substance, spanning n252-n253: they make known in the name of the whole Company of this Presidio that they have chosen by common accord as their particular Patrona the Virgen Maria de Guadalupe, and ask permission to offer her their humble devotions and to celebrate her Aparicion annually; they beg Fages to stand godfather at the Dedicacion ('le ruegan los apadrines en la Dedicacion'); and, this pious determination being to his liking, that he deign to approve that lots be drawn at once for the election of three individuals among those having sufficient Alcance to serve as mayordomos of the Patrona ('que desde luego se rife la eleccion de tres individuos entre los que tengan suficiente Alcance para mayordomos de la Patrona'). Savage records the marginal decree: 'Al márgen está el decreto: Como lo piden firmado por Fages.' [In the margin is the decree: As they ask, signed by Fages.] A collective petition by the enlisted men of the Monterey company founding a Guadalupan devotion, with the governor approving.
