Spans n269-n270; taken 'en dho. dia mes y ano' (= 4 June 1777, per the auto above). On point 1: he did order 'al soldado Vicente Felis' [so spelled here; 'Solis' at n268] to march to the S.n Juan Capistrano escolta; Solis obeyed but begged rations for his daughters, then that he petition the Teniente for a truce, 'y por esto se lo escribio a dho Sr. pero como yo no se leer ni escribir, no se lo que el escribano escribiria'; he finally went on foot. On point 2: only one denuncio, of 15 May, that 'Jose Maria Verdugo acompanado con Pedro Lisalde', sent to the corral de las yeguas for two horses, 'habian azotado a un indio gentil porque no les ensenaba la rancheria' and, finding the captain's wife, 'la solicitaron' - not carried out because gentiles arrived. The padres then called him and said to suspend the judgment, it had all been a lie, the captain himself calling it false, so he never reported it to the Teniente. Knows nothing of the deer hides.
