Previously uncatalogued — recovered by the 2026-08-27 coverage audit: it lay inside the span of a grouped entry covering n156-n190, which satisfied every coverage check while concealing it. Heading verbatim: '1845. Mayo 28 - Angˢ / (Sesion de este dia.)' [= 1845, May 28, Los Angeles. Session of this day.] ⭐⭐ The single most important document concealed by this band, and verified at full resolution. Heading at the top of n165, with no '+' in the margin. After approving the Coronel and Roland land dictamenes, the special commission of Botello and Figueroa appointed to report on the Junta de Misiones presents EIGHT ARTICLES, asking approval with dispensation of the usual stages, extracted by Savage as follows: 1º that the Government summon the neophytes of certain missions that are found abandoned, and should they not return their property be confiscated within the term marked, the Government disposing of it as convenient; 2º that some Missions be considered as Pueblos and the estates existing in them sold at public auction, reserving only the curacies, churches and their appurtenances, as well as the municipal buildings; 3º that the rest of the Missions not comprehended in the preceding articles may be leased by the Government; 4º the principal building of Santa Barbara is excepted from lease, being destined for the habitation of the Bishop and the reverend missionary fathers; 5º the product of the leases spoken of in art. 3 to be divided in three parts, one for the reverend father ministers, another for the Indians, and the last for public education; 6º the part reserved to the ministers to be placed at the disposal of the said fathers to form a general fund and distribute it to the stated objects; 7º that the decree referred to in art. 1 be published under the care of the ecclesiastical ministers, who are to report whether or not the neophytes have presented themselves within the term set; 8º the Government to review the payment of all debts owed to the Missions for the use to which the final part of art. 5 refers. Approved and ordered circulated. This is the legislative core of Pio Pico's 1845 mission sale and lease programme, sitting inside a grouped entry whose record does not mention missions at all.
